The E.F.S. portfolio contains health promoting products and decontaminating products. We often receive questions about our decontamination process. In this newsletter we hope to give you more insight into the decontamination services E.F.S. has to offer. In the interview below our technical specialists Glenn Waller and Harry van Ewijk will discuss all the options.

Glenn (63) has been active in the decontamination field together with E.F.S. for over 16 years and Harry (50) has worked for E.F.S. for 3 years. Together they form the technical heart of E.F.S. and have contributed to the development and flexibility EFS-01 (more about this later).

Which services does E.F.S. provide?

Harry: ‘E.F.S. provides three decontamination services:

  1. EFS-01: the mobile installation for on-site decontamination. It enables E.F.S. to treat products against unwanted microorganisms with great flexibility on various locations.
  2. Permanent liquid dosage installation: a fixed installation is built in at a location chosen by the customer. The installation is used to combat unwanted microorganisms in the factory and is custom-built.
  3. Advice: during an on-site visit we can carry out a survey and advise you on any potential issues at your location.

We can also treat organic raw materials. The recommended dosage for each raw material is based on in-house tests.’

So E.F.S. also offers advice?

Glenn: ‘Experience enables us to quickly detect potential sources of unwanted microorganisms in raw materials. These sources can be identified during a factory or storage facility inspection together with a customer or interested party. We hope to help companies develop a better understanding of microbiological control.’

Which products does E.F.S. use?

Glenn: ‘The E.F.S. portfolio consists of two decontamination product ranges: Stabilacid™ en Bact-Aid™. Both products are available in a liquid and a dry form. All E.F.S. products have been authorised for use in feed.’

Harry: ‘Our products have been developed to combat the broadest bacterial spectrum possible, including Salmonella and Enterobacteriaceae, while also taking the treatment requiring products into account. We treat products of animal origin as well as plant origin, as both types of product can contain unwanted microorganisms.’

What is the difference between EFS-01 and a fixed installation for customers?

Harry: ‘EFS-01 is a mobile installation we use to treat the raw material (e.g. wheat or rapeseed) present at agreed the location once. As part of this service we also have the product analysed both before and after treatment. The customer provides us with the required utilities, as well as a forklift truck, loading shovel and staff.’

Glenn: ‘A fixed installation is a different matter. It is a long-term partnership. After a meeting with the customer and a survey a proposal is drawn up. Once an agreement is reached the installation will be built in and delivered at the factory as soon as possible. This process takes 8 weeks on average.
Once the installation is up and running and properly adjusted, it is inspected and maintained several times a year. The frequency of maintenance depends on the volume and raw materials used and is determined in consultation with the customer.’

E.F.S. also provides on-site training for factory staff in order to ensure everyone is able to use all products safely.

E.F.S. provides decontamination expertise and products to keep raw materials and feeds free of unwanted microorganisms. It enables E.F.S. to add great value to the production of safe raw materials and feeds delivered to the feed sector.
